The Los Angeles Lakers are approaching the fifth starter position with flexibility, and Taurean Prince is set to be given the initial opportunity to fill that role on opening night.

Having been signed as a free agent in the offseason, Prince will join LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Austin Reaves, and D’Angelo Russell in the starting lineup against the Denver Nuggets.

However, Lakers coach Darvin Ham has advised against reading too much into this decision, noting that Prince starting is “circumstantial.”

Jarred Vanderbilt, who is in contention for the starting role, is unlikely to be available for the opener due to a heel injury, according to Ham.
