As Christian Wood transitions to the Los Angeles Lakers from his previous stint with the Mavericks, he finds a familiar ally in head coach Darvin Ham, with whom he previously worked during his time with the Bucks.

Despite prior speculation surrounding Wood’s work ethic and defensive capabilities during his time in Dallas, Ham remains resolute in his support for the player, saying that he prefers to focus on his personal interactions and experiences with Wood.

“I don’t know what happened in Dallas and that’s not my business. I don’t know,” Ham told Marc J. Spears of Andscape. “People say s—. ‘He’s lazy. He doesn’t play any defense.’

“I know the kid. I know what he’s going to do for me, and he’s done everything that I expected him to do up to this point since camp has been going on.”

Ham played a major role in luring Wood to Los Angeles. The player revealed that the coach was constantly in touch with him during the offseason.
