Norman Powell, a part of the Raptors’ 2019 NBA championship-winning team, reflected on what could have been if Toronto had retained their core players.

The 30-year-old shooting guard, who now wears the jersey of the Clippers, recently expressed his belief that the Raptors’ core, consisting of Fred VanVleet, Pascal Siakam, OG Anunoby, and himself, had the potential to emulate the success of the Celtics, one of the NBA’s premier teams today.

Powell’s departure from Toronto in a trade to the Trail Blazers in 2021 was a decision he didn’t take lightly. In his own words, “I didn’t want to leave Toronto. I wanted to stay. The core that we had with Fred, Pascal, OG, me could’ve been what Boston is now.”

However, since Powell’s departure, the Raptors’ core has undergone significant changes. While Siakam and Anunoby remain with the team, key pieces like Powell and others have moved on to new destinations.
