Former NBA champion and 14-year veteran JJ Barea is making a significant career shift as he embraces coaching. According to NBA insider Shams Charania, Barea has been named the head coach of the Guaynabo Mets in the Puerto Rican Professional Basketball League, marking his debut as a coach in his home country, Puerto Rico.

Barea’s journey into coaching began when he was hired as a player development coach by the Dallas Mavericks on August 15, 2021.

After an illustrious career in the NBA, Barea officially announced his retirement from professional basketball on July 20, 2022.
