Milwaukee Bucks superstar and two-time NBA MVP, Giannis Ugo Antetokounmpo, touched the hearts of basketball enthusiasts in Lagos as he made a special appearance at the Youth Alive Basketball Championship.

According to Salahudeen Sulayman of SportsRation, Organizers received a late confirmation of his attendance, and the NBA star didn’t disappoint, joining kids in pick-up games at the Rowe Park Yaba venue on July 28th. This visit marked Giannis’ return to Nigeria, the homeland of his parents, after several years.

Born on December 6, 1994, in Athens, Greece, Giannis Antetokounmpo is the son of Nigerian immigrants. His father was a soccer player, and his mother competed in high jump. The Antetokounmpo family had moved to Greece from Lagos three years prior to Giannis’ birth.

The NBA star took to social media, sharing a heartwarming photo of himself with his mother during the visit. Giannis expressed his excitement, writing, “Finally made it to Nigeria with Mama the Mama.”

The Youth Alive Basketball Championship served as a perfect platform for Giannis to engage with young talents, inspiring and motivating them to pursue their basketball dreams.
