The Atlanta Hawks are reportedly having “increasing willingness” to part ways with Clint Capela as the club continues their hunt for Pascal Siakam (via Marc Stein).

With this, the Dallas Mavericks could enter the chatter about who could land the big man. A Hawks-Raptors-Mavs deal will ultimately land Capela in Dallas and Siakam in Atlanta.

As Stein reminded, both the Hawks and the Mavericks had previous conversations with regards to Capela during this year’s NBA Draft, but Atlanta’s desire to gain swingman Josh Green served as a sticking point of the talks that ultimately fumbled.

The Mavs already got a plethora of offensive weapons in every position they got starring their star duo of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. Still, their center position remains a subject to be improved on with Dwight Powell, JaVale McGee, and rookie Dereck Lively II already in.

By potentially tapping Capela, Dallas’ concerns about their frontcourt presence would be finally shredded. The veteran big is a trustworthy double-double machine throughout his career, and he notably averaged 12. points and 11 boards in 65 regular season games for the Hawks in the previous 2022-23.

It remains to be seen if both the Hawks and the Mavs will be able to obtain their respective desire. As such, fulfilling their plans serve as a significant element in their continued pursuit of contention.
