According to a recent report by NBA insider Zach Lowe, there are individuals within the Los Angeles Lakers organization who are keen on bringing back D’Angelo Russell for the upcoming season.

Lowe mentioned on his podcast that there are “corners of the organization that would still like Russell back just because they have a void at that position. They need a point guard.”

Russell, who was traded back to the Lakers on February 9, 2023, in a three-team trade involving the Utah Jazz, became an unrestricted free agent this summer. The Lakers have been actively searching for a new point guard, as reported by Shams Charania.

During his brief stint with the Lakers last season, the 27-year-old guard averaged 17.4 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 6.1 assists in 30.9 minutes per game over 17 regular-season appearances.
