The rumor mill is in full swing regarding the future of Doc Rivers as head coach of the 76ers. According to Marc Stein, Rivers could be shown the door if the 76ers fail to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals.
Rivers took over as head coach of the 76ers in 2020, and since then, the team has made it to the conference semifinals three times, including this year. However, they have failed to advance beyond that stage in both 2021 and 2022, losing to the Atlanta Hawks and Miami Heat, respectively.
With the series against the Boston Celtics tied at 3-3, Game 7 could prove to be a make-or-break moment for Rivers and the 76ers. Despite leading the series 3-2, the 76ers failed to close out the Celtics in Game 6, which has led to speculation about Rivers’ job security.
