Dominican Republic could get a major boost for this year’s FIBA Basketball World Cup. Karl-Anthony Towns revealed in a recent appearance on Off Guard with Austin Rivers podcast that wants to play for the national team this summer.

“I’ve played in the game so much that I know what I should be expecting when I get on the court, when someone’s guarding me and stuff like that,” KAT said. “I never feel like anyone could guard me.

“So, I never need to go there to work on my game five on five or one-on-one. I know they can’t guard me. That’s the confidence I got. But that’s also how I feel it’s been working.

“This summer may be different. This summer I want to go play with the Dominican team. That would be cool. I’m trying to work that out right now.”

Dominican Republic is ranked 23rd in the FIBA rankings. The team is yet to know its opponent in the tournament.

This season Towns is averaging 20.5 points, 7.9 rebounds and 5.1 assists in 33.3 minutes per game.
