Brooklyn Nets head coach Jacque Vaughn revealed Sunday that an MRI determined a back inflammation on the side of Ben Simmons. It was already reported earlier this week that Simmons is enduring the said back injury as he continues his knee recovery.

“Well, he ended up having an MRI and it does show some inflammation,” Vaughn said when asked about Simmons’ status, via USA Today’s Sharif Phillips-Keaton. “So that’s what we’re trying to manage right now. So, we’ll see what that looks like, you know, kind of day by day, but that’s what we’re managing, along with trying to strengthen that knee.”

Simmons hasn’t appeared yet on the hardwood since Feb. 15 due to knee woes. Amid the negativities regarding his health and performance, Brooklyn remains optimistic that he’ll be able to be back this season.

Throughout 42 games this 2022-23, the former star swingman is just averaging 6.9 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 6.1 assists.
