Russell Westbrook is set to sign with the Clippers after agreeing to a buyout with the Jazz, a team which he was traded by the Lakers.

According to NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski, the former league MVP has the opportunity to become a starter again on the Clippers after being part of the second unit for the Lakers.

“There’s an opportunity for Russell Westbrook to start for this Clipper team,” Woj said on NBA Today. “Remember at the trade deadline they moved out Reggie Jackson, they moved out John Wall. Bones Hyland more of a combo guard they brought in from Denver.

“But I think the opportunity is there for him to start on this team. But listen, he’ll get in with the team this week, they start their sprint here to the end.

“But again, Ty Lue and Russell Westbrook a lot of real serious conversations this week and I think again the Clippers have a very specific vision of what they want out of Russell Westbrook.

“He convinced them that he’s going to fulfill that vision for them, play in a way that they want him to play and I know he’s excited for a chance to stay in LA and again be on a Clipper team that has been healthy.

“Kawhi Leonard has played incredible basketball really over the last several weeks and this is a team that certainly you look what they did at the trade deadline, I think they have an opportunity here to keep climbing in the West and if they’re healthy certainly make a run in the western playoffs.”

This season Westbrook has averaged 15.9 points, 6.2 rebounds and 7.5 assists in 28.7 minutes per game for the Lakers.
