In an unexpected turn of events, Kyrie Irving has requested the Nets to trade him before the February 9 trade deadline.

Since last offseason the Lakers were seriously interested in getting the former LeBron James teammate in Cleveland. The interest seems to be mutual.

Should such trade happen, the Lakers have the approval of the team’s legend Magic Johnson. “Personally, I’d love to see Kyrie in the purple and gold,” the five-time NBA champion tweeted in the wake of reports of Irving’s trade request.

This season Irving is averaging 27.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 5.3 assists in 37 minutes per game. He helped the Nets defeat the Lakers a couple of days ago.
