Boston Celtics team governor Wyc Grousbeck stressed that the franchise has to be locked in this season.
In an interview with NBC Sports Boston last Saturday, Grousbeck revealed the keywords of his discussion with team president Brad Stevens, stating that this 2022-23 campaign must be juiced out at their contending odds.
“The conversation that I had with Brad is: It’s about this year. It’s not about this will pay dividends in three years or this will do this next year,” Grousbeck said, per MassLive’s Souichi Terada. “It is this year. Muscle up and let’s go get the job done. That’s his instructions, and that’s what we’re going to try to do. If there’s anything to do, we’ll do it. If not, we love this team. We’re top of the league right now.”
The Celtics, current owners of the league’s best 36-15 regular season record, have been lurking around for potential additions to improve their roster. San Antonio Spurs big man Jakob Poeltl stands as a one-trade candidate that is consistently being linked to the club, which has a dire need of having an insurance big man for Rob Williams III and Al Horford.
With the trade deadline set for next week, Boston still has plenty of days to reassess their needs in preparation to finally complete a legitimate title run.
