The Los Angeles Lakers are looking to operate Anthony Davis at the starting center this upcoming season.

Head coach Darvin Ham told reporters that sliding Davis at the Lakers’ five is “under heavy consideration.”

“AD [starting] at the 5 is under heavy consideration,” Ham said Monday, via Spectrum SportsNet’s Mike Trudell.

Last season, Davis saw himself playing frequently at the center under former coach Frank Vogel. As such, things didn’t go well as planned in terms of his health and sustainability.

Davis was plagued by MCL and right ankle woes, which forced him to be limited with just 40 appearances. To add up, he also revealed recently that he had wrist issues which bothered his shooting stroke and efficiency at career-low 18.6 percent from three-point distance.

The All-star stalwart is being hailed as a rare breed of a cager who possesses an incredible mixture of a frontcourt-backcourt skills and boosted by gifted versatility that fits the current league landscape. But given the injury risks and history he has, the Lakers can only hope that their probable gamble for him will work out at the end of the day.

Los Angeles has plenty of big bodies to aid Davis in the likes of Thomas Bryant, Damian Jones, and Wenyen Gabriel. As such, it remains yet to be seen on how things will unfold for them at their starting slate and postseason hopes.
