When Luka Doncic was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers in February 2025, much speculation surrounded LeBron James’ future with the organization.
The controversial move by both the Lakers and the Dallas Mavericks might have started the revamped roster and new look that led to its current face.
As James has decided to take his veteran talent to the Philadelphia 76ers, the Lakers are left with the Slovenian superstar.
Doncic expressed excitement and optimism about the new talents around him, and believes they can still be a playoff contender in the upcoming season.
“I think we’re really good. We added a lot of talent, and I honestly believe we have everything we need to compete at the highest level. We’re not putting this group together just to have a good season — the goal is to win a championship,” Doncic said, per The Athletic.
Los Angeles has added many key players to compete for a championship campaign, mainly Walker Kessler, Collin Sexton, Kevon Looney, Quentin Grimes, and many more.
“I feel like we have the players to do it, and honestly, I think it’s going to be hard for a team to beat us four times. Now it’s on us to go out there and prove it,” he added.
The Lakers’ offseason additions could potentially help fill the gap, with hopes of healthy players after the 41-year-old Hall of Famer left.
