The New Orleans Pelicans have waived veteran forward Taj Gibson shortly after acquiring him in a trade with the Memphis Grizzlies.

Gibson arrived in New Orleans on Tuesday as part of the deal that sent Jordan Hawkins to Memphis. His stay with the Pelicans ended quickly, with the team deciding to release the 40-year-old.

The veteran had joined the Grizzlies on a multi-year contract in February before being included in this week’s trade.

Gibson appeared in 10 games for Memphis last season, averaging 3.4 points and 2.7 rebounds while playing 9.7 minutes per game.
