Slovenian superstar Luka Doncic, who is currently playing in EuroBasket 2022 with the national team, is taking legal action to cancel the registration of the trademark “LUKA DONCIC 7” which is owned by his mother Mirjam Poterbin, as reported by Marc Stein.

The trademark was registered with the consent of the Doncic during his rookie year in the NBA when he was 19-years-old. In order to regain control of all the trademarks that use his name, the player formally revoked his consent for registration but was unable to negotiate a deal to transfer the ownership of the trademark.

The existing trademark prevents Doncic from registering another trademark with just his full name due to similarity. It is thought that the 23-year-old point guard delayed taking legal action because he did not want to go public with the dispute.
