In a stunning performance overshadowed by illness, Tyrese Maxey poured in 35 points for the Philadelphia 76ers in Game 2 against the New York Knicks.
Despite battling sickness, Maxey showcased his determination and resilience on the court, contributing significantly to the 76ers’ efforts in a hard-fought playoff clash.
The Knicks ultimately secured a narrow 104-101 victory over the 76ers, thanks to a clutch go-ahead 3-pointer by Donte DiVincenzo in the final seconds of the game.
Despite his remarkable individual performance, Maxey revealed the challenging circumstances he faced leading up to the game.
Maxey disclosed that the night before the game, he experienced severe symptoms, including chills and physical discomfort, which persisted into the morning of the game.
Despite feeling unwell, Maxey was determined not to miss the crucial playoff matchup and underwent necessary treatments, including medication and IV therapy, to prepare for the game.
“I don’t feel great at all, honestly,” Maxey said, per Sam DiGiovanni of ClutchPoints. “I don’t like taking medicine. Everybody knows that. Like, I really can’t stand taking medicine but I took medicine, IV. I did whatever they asked me to do — and I wasn’t missing a game, so it didn’t matter. I don’t feel great but it is what it is.”
Maxey’s resilience and commitment to his team were evident throughout the game, as he battled through illness to deliver a standout performance on the court.
