The Utah Jazz are reportedly sticking around with Collin Sexton amid noises of another trade could be in the horizon involving the 23-year-old.
As relayed by ESPN’s Brian Windhorst in The Hoop Collective Podcast, sources inside the Jazz has noted that Sexton won’t go anywhere after he was acquired from the Cleveland Cavaliers via sign-and-trade agreement.
“I checked in, because I wondered could they reroute Collin Sexton? Maybe to the Lakers, for example, you know,” Windhorst said at the 18:56 mark, via HoopsHype. “But I was told no, that Sexton’s gonna be in Utah, at least that’s the plan.”
Together with Lauri Markkanen, 2022 Draft No. 14 overall pick Ochai Agbaji, three unprotected first-round picks and two pick swaps, Sexton was shipped to Utah in which Cleveland obtains All-star Donovan Mitchell in return. Following that, he inked a four-year, $72 million fully-guaranteed contract to officially complete the pact of both teams.
Sexton is coming off from a lowly 2021-2022 campaign, suffering from a meniscus tear which limited him to play in just 11 games while averaging 16.0 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists while shooting 45.0 percent from the floor.
But when healthy, he is a monstrous combo guard of his own. Remarkably in 2020-21 season, he had career-highs in points (24.3), assists (4.4), and efficiency (47.5 percent).
Utah stands poised to go for a fire sale with their veterans still on their roster. As such, it is yet to be seen on how they will approach their impending rebuild with Sexton having a long-term contract with them.
