Amid the looming rebuild, Gregg Popovich is likely to hold still the top coaching post of the San Antonio Spurs.

Per Mike Finger of the San Antonio Express-News, Popovich indeed gave his own honors on the recent Dejounte Murray trade and “on board” to coach the Spurs’ young nucleus.

Added by Finger, the legendary strategist is excited for the new opportunity and challenge in front of him.

After over 20 years of being a frequent, fearsome squad in the postseason arena, the Spurs might now have to pivot for a major reconstruction.

Following the Murray swap in which they received Danilo Gallinari and a bountiful of draft picks, the Spurs are being anticipated to fully enter a new era of committing towards the future, after the past two decades of dominance in the league with Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili as cornerstones.

With French big man sensation Victor Wembanyama expected to be on the table for next year’s draft, the club might pursue a tanking approach in order to attain him.

Being the NBA’s all-time winningest head coach, Popovich is indeed entering an unfamiliar, yet enticing room in handling his beloved team.
