The New York Knicks are inking Rick Brunson as their newest assistant coach, SNY.tv’s Ian Begley has penned recently.

Rick, the father of Dallas Mavericks guard Jalen Brunson, played nine seasons in the NBA before going to the sidelines as an assistant. He has connections with Tom Thibodeau and served under him in the Chicago Bulls and Minnesota Timberwolves.

Also, Brunson was one of the first clients of Knicks’ current president Leon Rose when he was still starting up as an agent from the past.

Jalen Brunson has been frequently mentioned in the NBA rumors as one of the interests of the Knicks entering free agency this offseason. As such, the Mavs remain confident that they’ll re-sign the explosive guard as an unrestricted free agent.
