The Lakers have further complicated their situation by losing against their neighbours in the standings – the Pelicans. With eight regular season games left to play Los Angeles is in 10th place in the Western Conference.

They are chased by the Spurs that are just a game back behind. In addition, the schedule for the Lakers is quite tough – they will face mostly the teams that are significantly higher than them in the standings.

It will be five road games against the Mavericks, Jazz, Suns, Warriors and Nuggets and three home games against the Pelicans, Nuggets and Thunder.

Sports analyst Nick Wright thinks that the season is over for the Lakers, unless LeBron James starts pouring 50 points a game. “If the Lakers make the play-in it’s because the Spurs or Pelicans go on a losing streak,” he said on First Things First.

“The Lakers have one way to win: LeBron has to literally score 50 points. If he doesn’t do that, they’re basically screwed. I don’t think LeBron can carry them there. They’re done.”
