Panathinaikos Athens reached a new agreement with high-flying power forward James Gist, who extended his contract until the end of the 2016-17 season.

Gist (2.06 meters, 28 years old) arrived to Panathinaikos in December 2012 in a trade which sent Andy Panko to Unicaja Malaga. He is averaging 9.3 points and 4.5 rebounds in 20 Turkish Airlines Euroleague games this season. Gist has become a fan favourite everywhere he has played due to his outstanding dunks and great ability to play over the rim.

After a four-career college career with Maryland, Gist played for Angelico Biella in Italy and Lokomotiv Kuban in Russia before making his Euroleague debut with Partizan Belgrade, averaging 11.4 points and 6.9 rebounds in 14 Euroleague games in the 2010-11 season.

He also played for Fenerbahce Ulker Istanbul of Turkey and Unicaja before joining Panathinaikos. He helped Partizan lift three trophies – Serbian League, Serbian Radivoj Korac Cup and Adriatic League – in 2011 and two back-to-back Greek doubles – league and cup titles – with Panathinaikos in 2013 and 2014, helping the Greens reach the Euroleague playoffs both years. Gist has also been a member of the USA national team at the 2007 Panamerican games.
