Gary Payton II is going to remain with the Golden State Warriors for the rest of the season, as Steve Kerr revealed prior to the game against New Orleans.

NBA teams will have to make a decision on non-guaranteed deals until Friday, as they whether intend to keep players in the roster until the end of the season.

Gary Payton II signed a non-guaranteed contract at the start of the season, taking up the 15th spot in the Warriors’ roster. He quickly became an important part of Golden State’s rotation due to his ability to defend and attack the basket.

He is averaging 7.9 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.3 steals in 16.9 minutes per game, capitalizing on his opportunities as a spark off the bench. He’s also shooting an extraordinary 64.1 percent from the field and 41.5 percent from deep.

Payton has become a significant contributor for a Warriors team that sits atop the Western Conference at 29-8, and he will continue his impressive year as part of a contending team.
