Phoenix Suns reached the NBA Finals last season thanks to the trio of Chris Paul, Devin Booker and Deandre Ayton, who had a remarkable postseason.

During this year, as the Suns hoped to retain the core that led them to the Finals, they re-signed CP3 and kept Booker on a long-term contract.

Despite all that, they were unable to reach an agreement with Ayton, who became one of the few Top-15 picks of the 2018 NBA Draft to not receive a max extension.

While Ayton will be out to prove a point this season, Chris Paul offered some insight to the former first overall pick on how he can get that big payday from the Suns.

“With D.A. and his situation, we talked about it,” Paul told Yahoo Sports. “He knows what he has to do. The goal for everybody is to see everyone getting paid. His situation is what it is, but it’s going to work out for him. We hope it works out for him. The biggest thing we know we can do is go out there and win games.”

Then Paul talked about the on and off-court chemistry of the Suns, despite the situation with Ayton, who will be a restricted free agent in the summer.

“Man, this is probably one of the best locker room that I’ve been in my whole career,” Paul Told Yahoo Sports. “Because we have young guys that are leaders and everybody leads in their own different ways. We communicate, we talk. It’s a real family over here. You celebrate the guys that got paid this summer.”

The Suns are hoping to repeat a very successful season, as the team came back without losing any significant piece from the last season’s roster.

It only remains to be seen if Ayton will use the failed negotiations as motivation to claim a max contract extension as a restricted free agent next summer.
