It has been reported that Nigerian international Gani Lawal is close to signing with Panathinaikos after deciding to opt-out of his contract with Trabzonspor in Turkey.

Sources close to the deal have said that Lawal looks likely to sign with the Euroleague side within the next 48 hours but it is unclear when he would make his debut for the Greens.

Lawal spent last season with EA7 Milano and won the Italian league title before signing with Trabzonspor last summer. The 26-year-old, who was drafted into the NBA in the second round back in 2010 has had spells with Phoenix, D-League side Iowa Energy, VEF Riga and has spent two seasons in China.

The forward has also got international experience with Nigeria as Lawal, born in College Park, Georgia has a Nigerian mother.
