Portland Trail Blazers superstar Damian Lillard had an excellent start in the postseason leading his team to a 123-109 victory over Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets.

The Blazers limited Jokic to one assist, preventing him from creating easy shots for his teammates. Lillard reacted to Portland’s excellent defensive strategy praising Jokic in the process.

“He’s the MVP in my opinion. You know he’s going to play well…We didn’t want to allow him to score and pick us apart, and I think that played in our favor,” the Blazers superstar said, per Harrison Wind of DNVR Sports.

Lillard scored 34 points to lead the Blazers in scoring in Game 1 of the series. On the other side, Jokic also had 34, however this was not enough for the Nuggets.

Both stars will face again each other on Monday for Game 2 with Blazers aiming to gain the momentum and a 2-0 lead in the process.
