Free agent guard Isaiah Thomas plans to sign a 10-day deal with the New Orleans Pelicans, according to Shams Charania.

Thomas will be eligible to make his Pelicans debut on April 4 against the Houston Rockets, adds Charania.

The 32-year-old last played in the NBA in the 2019-2020 season, when he played 40 games for the Washington Wizards.

Thomas played for Team USA at the FIBA AmeriCup 2022 Qualifiers in February and averaged 14.0 points, 2.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game in two games.

He wanted to show NBA teams that he could still play at a high level and he will now have a great opportunity to do just that with the Pelicans.

The Pelicans have two open roster spots, so they won’t have to waive a player to make room before signing Thomas.

The Pelicans have been without point guard Lonzo Ball for the last six games due to a strained right hip flexor and he isn’t sure when he will return to the court.
