Doc Rivers opened up about the criticism he received from his former player Paul George regarding the way he used him in offense last season.
George said Rivers used him in a similar way to JJ Redick or Ray Allen, but this could not help him be fully effective offensively.
“The way I was being used, I felt Doc was trying to play me as a Ray Allen or a J.J. Redick, all pin-downs. I can do it, but that ain’t my game.
I need some flow, I need some mixes of pick-and-rolls, I need some post ups, just different touches. Last season was hard overall,” George told Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson during his appearance on the All The Smoke podcast.
For his part, Rivers, who parted ways with the Los Angeles Clippers and joined the Philadelphia 76ers, said George should not expect a different offensive approach under new Clippers coach Tyronn Lue.
“I enjoyed coaching him. Ty Lue was sitting right next to me, so [George] hope it’s not adjustments. It ain’t going to be much different.
We lost the game and I think everybody needs to take ownership. Obviously, we can always do better. Players can get better…I’ll leave it there,” Rivers noted, via Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer.
