Onyeka Okongwu, likely top-10 pick in Wednesday’s draft, has a foot injury that could cost him time, according to Rick Bonnell of The Charlotte Observer.

The injury could reportedly keep him out for training camp and maybe some of the regular season.

It could also impact where he is chosen in the draft, though probably not by a lot, Bonnell notes.

Teams in the draft lottery are also reportedly “scrambling” to get medical information on Okongwu’s foot to determine the severity of the injury, according to former Phoenix Suns general manager Ryan McDonough.

It will be interesting to see how much Okongwu will fall in the lottery, as it will be determined by what teams find out, as foot injuries tend to be worrisome for big men.

The Washington Wizards have previously been linked to Okongwu with the No. 9 pick, so with this news, the chances that he’s still on the board at that spot are higher, but there are still no guarantees they choose him.

UPDATE: Okongwu has a fractured left big toe, according to ESPN’s Jonathan Givony.

The injury is considered minor, will require one-to-three weeks of rest and is not expected to impact his draft stock or availability for the start of the season.
