Los Angeles Clippers assistant coach Tyronn Lue and former Houston Rockets head coach Jeff Van Gundy are believed to be the leading candidates to replace Doc Rivers as the team’s head coach, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Wojnarowski reported on Monday that the Clippers have parted ways with Rivers following their shocking exit from the playoffs and has followed that up with claims of the aforementioned pair being in the frame to step into the vacancy. Rivers has since confirmed his exit in a statement posted to Twitter.
Rivers spent seven years as the Clippers’ head coach, leading them to the postseason in six of those seasons. However, he failed to make an appearance in the Western Conference Finals, even after assembling the best squad in the league over the summer.
