Giannis Antetokounmpo’s rise begins as a Black immigrant growing up in Greece where he dealt with racism and xenophobia.

The reigning MVP feared every day that his parents would be deported, struggled to find food on a consistent basis and wasn’t granted citizenship until he was 18.

He used basketball as a motivator. But his family motivates him too: “I’m not doing it for me. I got six people behind me.”
