The LA Clippers have a real shot to win the title this year, but it was years in the making. The Lob City days were a catalyst for the team of today and, according to Zach Lowe, Blake Griffin was the main reason for that.

Lowe said on his podcast:

“Blake was the patient zero with the Clippers, none of this happen without him. That team was super fun before CP3 got there, with Eric Gordon. Blake put league pass on the map. You needed to watch him every night. The reason they got CP3 ’cause of they already had Blake. Franchise image changed, none of this happened without Blake. If Clippers win it all in this iteration, I hope they pay tribute to Blake for starting this thing off.”

Griffin was the first overall pick in the 2009 Draft. After Griffin was drafted, the Clippers were able to do other things that would not be possible without him. They were able to build a team around him.

The Clippers are now in a position to win an NBA championship and the drafting of Blake Griffin in 2009 made it all possible.
