Luka Doncic is the best player to build around, NBA scouts said, according to HoopsHype. Doncic had a great run in his second year. His third year should be special. The greats, like Wilt Chamberlain and Michael Jordan, had some of the best third years in NBA history. LeBron James’ third year was also special. He averaged 31.4 points per game.
Doncic has the ability to make plays and see the floor. His high basketball IQ helps him take the Dallas Mavericks to the next level. A player that you can build around is one that has the ability to make others better around them. Doncic has proved to be able to do that. As a bigger point guard, he has been able to use his size and abundance of basketball experience to win games.
Here’s what a scout said about Luka Doncic:
“To me, Luka is the clear No. 1,” one scout told HoopsHype. “He’s a guy who can be a lead ballhandler. Doncic is good enough to score and create at a high level, has the right mental makeup and is incredibly smart. He’s been a winner everywhere and will probably be a winner in the league.”
The next step of Doncic’s development is getting lighter and being able to blow right by players. If he wants to be able to lead the Mavericks far, he has to be able to handle the ball for a long period of time. The game has to be decided with the ball in his hands.
He will be the one to make the game winning shots and distribute the ball around to everybody. The greats, like Michael Jordan and LeBron James, have done it. They have won championships by being the dominant player on the court.
How does he do that? He will have to be able to figure out how to have an unstoppable way to score. Jordan had his mid-range shot and LeBron had his driving ability. Doncic, while not quite the athlete, has his smarts. He has to be able to rise to the challenge of every possession.
“He’s a do-it-all type of player who makes everyone better,” another scout told HoopsHype. “His production at his age is unreal. He scores like James Harden in a more team-oriented fashion. He’s one of the most fun players to watch. Dallas overachieved at a high level under his watch.”
