Future prospect Domantas Sabonis received his first call up to the senior national team following his debut season in Euroleague.
The son of legendary Arvydas Sabonis will join reserve team which will feature young player who are expected to join the main squad in the near future or even sooner – in case of an injury of first team players.
Jonas Kazlauskas decided to call all the players who were on the team that won silver last year in Slovenia, except Tomas Delininkaitis, who, according to Kazlauskas, did not meet expectations.
It was also confirmed that the 38-year-old Sarunas Jasikevicius is not on the list due to his age and the time necessary for him to get ready. Kazlauskas also stated that inviting Saras would go against current philosophy of giving the chance to young players.
Despite the above, there are several experienced players among the 24 selected by Kazlauskas. Lavrinovic brothers, Robertas Javtokas, Paulius Jankunas and Antanas Kavaliauskas are already in or near their 30’s.
