Kings may explore trade options for Domantas Sabonis

Domantas Sabonis could emerge as one of the Sacramento Kings’ most notable trade candidates as uncertainty surrounds his long-term future with the organization.

The veteran center still has two seasons remaining on his contract worth a combined $94 million.

Although Sabonis is eligible to sign an extension, Sacramento reportedly has no interest in giving its longtime starting big man a new deal at this point.

That situation makes a potential trade increasingly relevant.

However, finding a suitable destination could be difficult because an acquiring team would have to absorb Sabonis’ substantial guaranteed salary.

The 30-year-old is owed $45.4 million this season and another $48.6 million next year.

Sabonis is also attempting to bounce back from a season largely disrupted by injuries.

He appeared in only 19 games, preventing him from producing at the consistent level Sacramento had become accustomed to seeing.
