Legendary NBA organisation San Antonio Spurs will visit Istanbul to tip-off their upcoming season, in the frame of NBA Global Games.

The NBA side will face Fenerbahce Ulker in Istanbul and the game will be held at Ulker Sports Arena, on October 11th, 2014. More details are expected to be available soon.

NBA have their eyes set on the Turkish market as this will be the third year running that NBA Global Games will visit Istanbul. In 2012 it was Boston Celtics who visited Ulker Sports Arena and in 2013 the Oklahoma City Thunder visited the same arena.

This will be Spurs’ first away game against a European team since 2006, when they faced, and beat, Maccabi Tel Aviv in Paris, thanks to Tony Parker’s 27 points.

Additionally this will be the second time two great legends, who also happen to be great friends, will sit on opposing benches. The first time was in 2007 when the then NBA Champions hosted the then Euroleague champions. Spurs had cruised past Panathinaikos 113-91.

The Texas based team has a perfect record against European clubs with 8 wins in 8 games. However, the last time they faced a European side, a few months ago, it took an overtime for Spurs to beat CSKA Moscow 95-93.
