On this day, 38 years ago, a young Michael Jordan hit a jump shot with 15 seconds left on the clock to beat Patrick Ewing’s Georgetown Hoyas and hand the University of North Carolina the NCAA Men’s Championship.

It was the biggest shot of Jordan’s life at the time, little did he know it would be the first of many.

“That was birth of Michael Jordan,” MJ told Craig Sager. “Before that I was Mike. All of a sudden I make that shot and I’m Michael.”
