In a shocking abuse incident, Maccabi Tel Aviv’s captain and international Israeli player Guy Pnini was given a hefty fine and removed as captain of the team after he repeatedly verbally abused an opponent player.

Among other things, Pnini called his Swedish-Israeli opponent Jonathan Skjoldebrand a German Nazi (apparently anyone who is blonde and has blue eyes is a Nazi in Pnini’s eyes) while wishing he developed brain tumour and his father died of cancer.

The incident was caught on camera and some lip-reading specialists confirmed Hapoel Tel Aviv player claims of abuse. As a result Pnini was punished by his own club with a $25.000 fine and was removed as the team’s captain. There are even some voices calling for his ban from the Israeli National Team.

To Pnini’s defense, he has expressed his remorse: “I feel I have disappointed the league, the club, the fans and my family. I will do all that I can to make up for my mistake.”
