Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv is pleased to announce that it has signed American forward Malcolm Thomas (23, 6’9”) to a one year contract, with an option for an additional year. Thomas is an outstanding athlete with excellent finishing skills in the paint, a great shot blocker and rebounder.

In his last season at San Diego State University (2010 – 2011), Thomas finished with averages of 11.4 points, 8.1 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2 blocks per game. Due to the NBA lockout, Thomas began his first season as a professional (2011 – 2012) in Asia, where he was a stand-out with his 21 points, 11 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 blocks per game playing for Mobis Phoebus of South Korea.

When the lockout ended, Thomas signed with the Los Angeles Lakers, but was sent to play for the team’s D-League club, the Los Angeles D-Fenders, where he was impressive with averages of 14.9 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks per game. Thomas went on to play for two other teams in the D-League, and also played three games in the NBA for the San Antonio Spurs.

Thomas played for the Chicago Bulls in the 2012 NBA Summer League, where he earned praise for his 11.4 points and 12.4 rebounds per game.

Maccabi’s head coach, David Blatt, said of his new player: “We’re happy to have signed a quality player with a huge amount of potential like Malcolm Thomas at such a relatively late date. He’ll bring us a lot of energy in various categories on both ends of the court. I can’t wait to work with him and to quickly integrate him into the Maccabi system and our method of play.”
