The British Basketball League (BBL) has told TalkBasket that they are in discussions with Euroleague Basketball regarding the Final Four that comes to London’s O2 Arena in May 2013.

Euroleague CEO Jordi Bertomeu announced during the Final Four two weeks ago in Istanbul that London would host their main event in 2013 with a possibilty that it be held at the same venue in 2014.

The BBL though has confirmed they have commenced preliminary discussions with Euroleague with regards to 2013. It was rumoured that both the British Basketball League and England Basketball were not informed of the decision to stage the Final Four in England, marking the first time that Europe’s premier competition will have stepped foot on UK soil since 2001.

A source working within the BBL said: “We are looking at ways we can work with Euroleague next year, the BBL had a great response from the Trophy Final being staged at the O2 prior to the NBA regular season games.”

This year’s BBL play-off final, the showpiece game in the league’s calendar was played on the Saturday of the Euroleague Final Four in Istanbul, which was the event’s rest day.
