According to reports from Turkish basketball site basketfaul.com, Cem Akdag is close to be the new coach of Galatasaray MP. Akdag is a fan favourite coach who worked as a coach of younger age groups and Galatasaray senior men’s team. He drew attention in 2009-2010 after infamous ‘Nalga scandal’ when he accepted a very hard task; namely making the team stay in the TBL after a heavy point deduction punishment. He and his team succeed in this task; however, the club administration let him go after the regular season.
Along with his experience in Galatasaray, he was involved in Turkish National Women’s Team coaching squad for nearly 9 years.The second candidate is Pierre Vincent. Another famous coach, especially made himself a name with Bourges and French National Team. He led Bourges to domestic French title three times and two Euroleague semifinals. Moreover, he achieved those without a great budget. Last summer, he led the French Women to the Eurobasket semifinals. Galatasaray is a club that has strong French connections from its roots and that can be a reason of choice. Last season, he turned to men’s basketball and coached ASVEL. However, things did not go well and Asvel guaranteed to finish the season without playoff in French domestic League. In Eurocup, the team failed to advance quarter final playoffs.
