ImageThe European basketball scene, with its more than a dozen leagues that could be considered as “important”, is too big for all of us to really be experts. Some of us might watch games from many leagues here an then, but those who don’t e.g. get paid for scouting hardly have the chance and time to watch a middle-of-the-table-clash from the Turkish league or a relegation battle from France.

Our understanding of European basketball is based quite a lot of prejudices and reputation. And even when we watch games, perception plays a big role when sometimes numbers are a lot more accurate. For example, we know that Greek A1 has the reputation of being a physical league where they play a lot of halfcourt basketball, while we experience a Spanish ACB game as quite fast most of the time. That is where meaningful statistics can help us a lot. And if it is just to confirm our prejudices, which is always nice.
