Greece earned the 84-77 victory over the Czech Republic, yet they were eliminated as they had to win by 12 or more points.

The Czechs are very close to advancing to the quarter-finals and they will secure their spot in the next round, if Team USA defeats Brazil later today.

Greece were in front by 12 points twice in the fourth quarter (51-63, 53-65), yet the Czech Republic went on a 15-5 run to cut the deficit to two (68-70). After that, the Greeks could not bring their lead back to double digits and were eliminated.

Nick Calathes led the winners with 27 points and six assists, with Kostas Sloukas adding 16 and Giannis Antetokounmpo 12 (and nine rebounds). The “Greek Freak” was fouled out in the middle of the fourth quarter.

On the other hand, Jaromir Bohacik had a team-high 25 points for the losing squad, while Tomas Satoransky came close to the triple-double (13 points, eight rebounds, nine assists).
