Bruno Fernando from the Atlanta Hawks and Silvio De Sousa from the University of Kansas, two of Angola’s rising stars, have been invited to training camp for the 2019 FIBA World Cup.

Fernando played two years at the University of Maryland before being drafted 34th overall in this year’s NBA Draft.

Fernando became the first player from Angola selected in the NBA Draft.

In February, the NCAA initially ruled De Sousa ineligible for two seasons at Kansas because of his guardian’s role in accepting money from a former Adidas executive.

In May, De Sousa finally won his appeal and was declared eligible for Kansas’ upcoming season.

Fernando and De Sousa played together at the 2016 FIBA Africa Under-18 Championship where they were both named to the all-tournament team and De Sousa was named MVP.
