Ahead of his side's game against the Cheshire Jets on Saturday, Worcester Wolves boss Chuck Evans has expressed his feelings of awe and wonder at the performance of Marshall MK Lions Point Guard EJ Harrison, who scored 25 points for his team as the Wolves defeated them 92-91 last weekend, thanks to a clutch play from Evaldas Zabas. Evans said: 'As a former point guard, to watch EJ Harrison, is like watching a conductor at the New York Symphony Orchestra.' A former Euroleague star as a playmaker, he also claimed that the difference between his side's play in the Newcastle defeat last weekend compared to the win over the Lions the following evening, was their focus. He added: 'The main difference in beating the Lions compared to losing to the Eagles was our focus. We are young and not accustomed to winning at a high level. In order to do this we must be focused in for the entire forty minutes, and we are not there yet. We watched the video from Friday's game on Saturday and it helped us to make the necessary adjustments.'
The weekend is tipped off by a clash between the Newcastle Eagles and the Airwaves Plymouth Raiders at the Metro Radio Arena. Although the form guide would heavily favour the Eagles, who currently sit in third place in the BBL Championship Table, the Raiders did beat the Eagles 96-95 in overtime earlier in the season.
This gives Newcastle's play caller Fabulous Flournoy cause for concern, although he stressed that the sides match up well against each other. He commented: 'We should match up well with Plymouth, particularly after they unfortunately lost Eric Flato. We both have very quick point guards and guys who can finish inside. Most importantly, we are also both down to six senior players.'
Friday also sees a mouth-watering BBL Cup Quarter Final clash between Sheffield Sharks and the Everton Tigers, as the winners of the tie will go on to face the Jelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders in a two-leg semi final. The Sharks will get their taste of the Riders side anyway this weekend, for the second time this season, as they make the journey to the East Midlands on Saturday evening.
Riders play caller and former Birmingham Bullets point guard, Rob Paternostro, says that despite his side beating the Sharks convincingly last time they visited Leicester, they will have their work cut out on Saturday evening: 'Any time the first placed team comes into your building, its cause for excitement. Sheffield has had a great start to their season winning both at home and on the road' he said.
To cap off Saturday's round of matches, the Essex Pirates take on the Marshall MK Lions at home, as they look for their first victory over the league's form team, and the Worthing Thunder host PAWS London Capital.
