Leicester RidersJelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders have re-signed guard Bradd Wierzbicki for the 2009/10 season.

The American averaged 19.4 points per game in his first season with the club, making him the seventh leading scorer in the BBL. Coach Rob Paternostro is delighted to have secured the services of the man who hit the Riders' shot of the season to defeat Sheffield in the play-offs.

"As soon as the season ended we spoke to Bradd about coming back," he said. "It was a long process, but to be able to hold on to a guy who can score and is already comfortable in our system is a big coup for the club.

"Bradd is the kind of player who has a nose for scoring whether it be from the outside, from the free throw line or getting out on the fast break. Whenever and wherever he has played, he has shown he has a real ability for putting the ball in the basket."

Whilst Wierzbicki had a fantastic first professional season, Paternostro reckons his second season could be even better for the Riders.

"He had a great season so it will be tough to post better numbers," Paternostro admitted. "But as a young player, Bradd is looking to improve in a lot of areas of his game. We have to remember he is still only 23 years old, so he has a lot of potential and he certainly has a chance to keep getting better.

"Being out on court Bradd is going to help the players around him because he is a legitimate threat and teams are going to have to respect that threat. He's also a great guy, the fans love him, we couldn't be happier to have him back."

Riders host a pre-season double-header at John Sandford Sports Centre on Friday 18th and Saturday 19th September with tickets available at www.leicesterriders.co.uk.
