Mike MartinThe Guildford Heat is pleased to announce the re- signing of Mike Martin, known to fans as Captain Fantastic for his match-winning performances.

The 6'7" England International has been an ever- present for the Heat, leading the team from the front for the last four seasons at the Spectrum. He is the first of several high-profile signings by new Heat player-coach Chad McKnight. Mike, who has signed a three-year contract, is expected to be one of the cornerstones of the team this season and next and is looking forward to the challenge for adding to the Heat's already impressive haul of silverware.

As well as his on-court activities, Mike will be taking up a role as a Hoops 4 Health officer. Hoops 4 Health is one of a number of community activities run by the Heat each year. Hoops 4 Health teaches Primary School children about the importance of exercise and healthy eating. Mike will be spearheading the Heat's efforts in taking the message into schools with school visits and coaching sessions.

Mike is one of the longest-serving players in the BBL (British Basketball League). He played for a number of clubs in the UK and also in France, before joining the Heat for their inaugural season in 2005. Since then he has been a stalwart of the club, setting a number of club records. Mike has appeared in all of the Heat's games, save for a short stretch in 2006, when he was away winning a Bronze medal with England in the Commonwealth Games.

Mike has played in a total of 133 BBL games for the Heat (all as a starter), while scoring 2,098 points and grabbing 1,053 rebounds, all of which are club records. Last season, Mike played in all 46 of the Heat's games, leading the club in rebounding (361 rebounds). Mike was also second in scoring with 808 points, while he lead the team in steals (82) and blocked shots (23). He set a season high with 25 rebounds against the Leicester Riders and twice netted 32 points, once against London Capital and once against Milton Keynes Lions.
