ImageGeneral Manager of Spartak St. Petersburg, Alexey Karvanen, had mentioned that Spartak was actively looking for a new head coach to replace Pashutin and the club´s efforts were successfull after a deal with Alexandar Trifunovic was reached.

Trifunovic was chosen over other candidates such as David Blatt and Fotis Katsikaris. The 42 year old Serb coach had coached two Euroleague clubs in the past two seasons, Lietuvos Rytas and Panionios Athens while he started his coaching career at the age of 35 in Red Star.
