EuroLeague announced that Gran Canaria will have to replace their playing floor ahead of their next home game.

The decision was made following repeated incidents of players slipping on the court’s surface.

Per the competition’s press release:

“Euroleague Basketball has communicated to Herbalife Gran Canaria that the playing floor of Gran Canaria Arena must be replaced immediately due to repeated incidents of players slipping on the court’s surface during the team’s Turkish Airlines EuroLeague home games so far this season.

Euroleague Basketball has been monitoring the conditions of the Gran Canaria Arena court since the team’s first home game on October 16, corresponding to Round 2 of the EuroLeague regular season.

Following the Regular Season Round 6 game played on November 8, Euroleague Basketball opened a Disciplinary proceeding against Gran Canaria and instructed the club to follow concrete steps in order to solve this situation. Despite reports received and possible solutions evaluated, the problems have persisted, prompting Euroleague Basketball to declare that the current playing court endangers the physical integrity of the participating players, and therefore must be replaced immediately.”
